A few hours after Sichuan Airlines announced they would increase fuel surcharge in response to recent hike of oil prices from thursday, Air China, China Eastern Airlines and other major domestic carriers disclosed their plans for adjusting jet fuel surcharges for the third time this year.
The announcement issued by Sichuan Airlines says that the surcharge for passengers flying less than 800 kilometers will rise from 60 yuan to 80 yuan, and for flights longer than 800 kilometers, it will be raised from 110 yuan to 140 yuan.
The National Development and Reform Commission, China's top economic planning body, made an annoucement that it lifted the post-factory jet fuel price by 7.640 yuan a ton from 6,840 yuan starting on May 25.
It is reported that jet fuel prices have accounted for 40 percent of the total cost of the three Chinese airline giants Air China, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines.
