China plans to double the output value of its press and publication industry in the next five years, according to the country's General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP).
The annual growth rate of the entire press and publication industry is expected to be around 19 percent, and, by 2015, the annual output value of the whole sector is expected to reach 2.94 trillion yuan (450 billion U.S. dollars), up from 1.22 trillion yuan in 2010, the GAPP said in its five-year development plan for the press and publication industry released Wednesday.
Moreover, the GAPP plans to promote exports of China's domestic publication products by raising publication product export revenue to 42 million U.S. dollars and increasing the export revenue for digital products and publication services to 1 billion U.S. dollars.
According to GAPP statistics, export revenue of China's domestic-made online games exceeded 200 million U.S. dollars in 2010.
Also on Wednesday, China's National Copyright Administration (NCA) published its five-year plan for copyright administrative work, pledging further efforts in increasing public awareness of copyright protection and improve the country's copyright protection legal system.
According to a statement from the NCA Wednesday, copyright administrative authorities across the country have closed 128,493 illegal enterprises involved in copyright violations, issued administrative penalties for 49,416 violation cases and confiscated 317 million pirated products over the past five years.
Registered copyrighted work and software increased from 23,000 and 152,000 pieces, respectively, in 2006, to 81,000 and 370,000, respectively, last year, the NCA statement said.
