First quarter China-BRICS trade up 45 percent

The imports and exports value between China and the other BRICS countries of Brazil, India, Russia and South Africa was up about 46 percent to 60 billion U.S. dollars in the first quarter of 2011, 16 percentage points higher than China's overall foreign trade growth rate during the same period, according to latest data released by the General Administration of Customs (GAC) on April 15.
Of them, China's imports from other BRICS countries were up 57 percent to 33 billion U.S. dollars, while China's exports to these countries were up 34 percent to 27 billion U.S. dollars, representing a trade deficit of 6 billion U.S. dollars, up by 550 percent from a year earlier.
Bilateral trade between China and Brazil, India, Russia and South Africa all exceeded 10 billion U.S. dollars, with the trade value between China and India topping others. The bilateral trade between China and India was up 25 percent to 18 billion U.S. dollars in the first quarter.
The bilateral trade between China and Brazil, Russia and South Africa was up by 59 percent, 34 percent and 110 percent, respectively. India is China's ninth largest trade partner, and Brazil, Russia and South Africa are China's 10th, 11th and 14th largest trade partners, respectively.
Customs statistics show that the value of imports and exports between China and Brazil, India, Russia as well as South Africa was up about 49 percent in March to 22 billion U.S. dollars. Of them, China's imports from these countries were up 49 percent to 12 billion U.S. dollars and China's exports to these countries were up 49 percent to 10 billion U.S. dollars. This indicates a trade deficit of 2 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 51 percent from a year earlier.
