A private jet worth 200 million yuan (US$31 million) touched down in Shanghai yesterday.

The Cessna C56X (above) will be one of the stars at the Shanghai International Business Aviation Show which starts on Wednesday.

The two-engine civilian jet, which can climb at 1,828 meters per minute, flew to Shanghai from Sapporo, Japan. It is one of around 30 aircraft to be showcased at the event.

The three-day show at Hongqiao International Airport covers an exhibition area of 44,000 square meters.

More than 100 local and international exhibitors are taking part and the event is open to the public.

China is becoming one of the fastest growing markets for business aviation with high net worth individuals keen to own their private aircraft.

Organizers say that according to the 2010 Hurun Rich List, one-sixth of the 2,000 Chinese yuan billionaires have plans to buy private aircraft - jets or helicopters - for business as well as personal use.

They estimate China's private aircraft market could grow by up to 25 percent a year over the next 10 years.
