Japan earthquake impacts China's import market

Write: Eudora [2011-05-20]
The earthquake in Japan's northeastern regions will indeed affect the economic and trade cooperation between Japan and China because the China-Japan economic cooperation relationship is very close and Japan is China's largest import market, accounting for 13 percent of China s total import value, said Yao Jian, spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM), during a routine news conference on the morning of March 22.
Yao added that China is a major destination for the industrial transfer of Japanese enterprises and a large number of Japan-funded enterprises are engaged in the production, trade and investment business in China, so the earthquake will affect the trade between the two countries and the investments in China's manufacturing sector.
Yao believes China needs to focus on the communication and cooperation with Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in order to effectively ensure the transportation of disaster relief materials.
The analysis of the earthquake's effects on the entire industry is still incomplete.
But operations of Japan-funded enterprises in China will be affected since they import components and parts from Japan. Japanese enterprises in Tianjin, Dalian and Jiangsu have reported such troubles.
The production and trade business related to various goods, such as integrated circuits (IC), steel and auto components, imported from Japan to China will also be affected.
