HK insurance's gross premiums in 2010 up 11.6%

Hong Kong's Commissioner of Insurance office announced on Tuesday that the total gross premium of the Hong Kong insurance industry was 207.2 billion HK dollars (26.59 billion US dollars) in 2010, representing an increase of 11.6 percent over 2009.
The gross and net premiums of general insurance business recorded a growth of 9.8 percent to 31.4 billion HK dollars (4 billion US dollars) and 6.9 percent to 21.9 billion HK dollars (2. 8 billion US dollars) in 2010.
The overall underwriting performance also recorded a rise in profit from 2.2 billion HK dollars (282.3 million US dollars) in 2009 to 2.6 billion HK dollars (333.7 million US dollars) in 2010. (one US. dollar equals 7.792 HK dollars)
