Second round of rare earth export quotas to be released in 2011

The second round of rare earth export quotas will be released in 2011, Commerce Minister Chen Deming said during an interview with China Securities Journal on March 13. The growth rate of China's exports will decline in 2011, and the 12th Five-Year Plan of China's domestic trade will be completed in 2011.
Chen pointed out that the second batch of rare earth export quotas will be released in 2011, and the growth rate of the annual quota compared with 2010 has yet to be decided.
The Ministry of Commerce released the first batch of 2011 rare earth export quotas at the end of 2010, causing speculation of a significant reduction on the 2011 quota. Some experts believe the second batch of rare earth export quotas will not be released in 2011.
The government issued a series of rare earth product management policies and measures in 2010 to limit the over-exploitation of rare earth resources and to protect the ecological environment, indicating that the national control on rare earth export will be further strengthened in 2011.
