CPPCC member calls for fair distribution of wealth

To preserve and improve the people's livelihood, it is the most important to ensure the equitable distribution of wealth in our society, said Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) member Liang Xiaosheng in an interview.
"Only the equitable distribution of wealth can guarantee the availability of other types of social equity, such as the educational equity for migrant workers' children," Liang said
In this year's government work report, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said the government should preserve and improve the people's livelihood and strive to enable all people to access aged care, medical services and housing.
"This is just our expectation," Liang said. "However, I believe that in order to improve quality of life, the government should ensure the equitable distribution of wealth in our society in the first place."
Liang has accordingly suggested:
First, the government should transform the economic development mode in order to enable the transformation from a rich country to rich people. The prosperity and power of a modern country should be based on the sense of well-being and the security of each citizen rather than on a rich country and poor people.
Second, the government should restrict monopolized industries and the privileged minority from obtaining excessively high income. This should be accomplished through legislation to ensure the equitable distribution of wealth and set the minimum percentage of profits that enterprises should distribute to their employees in order to ensure people share the outcomes of China's reforms and development.
