Airbus JV operational in Harbin

AIRBUS' Chinese joint venture opened a new factory in Harbin yesterday that will produce parts for the A320 and A350 XWB aircraft as the plane maker takes a step closer to hit US$450 million in output in China by 2015.
The new facility is the first phase of a US$100-million investment for Harbin Hafei Airbus Composite Manufacturing Center, Airbus' latest joint venture in China.
The 33,800 square-meter facility, part of a 80,000-square-meter factory, will manufacture parts like rudder, elevators and horizontal tail plane spar for the A320 and rudder and elevators for the A350 XWB aircraft.
Airbus and its Chinese partners, including Harbin Aircraft Industry Group Co, set up the US$150 million center in Harbin in 2009 as part of the European aircraft maker's target of making 5 percent of the A350 XWB airframe in China. Airbus China holds a 20-percent stake in the venture and Chinese partners the balance.
