Write: Herb [2011-05-20]
The pure electric Mini E will hit Beijing for road tests, with the first 15 volunteers given the keys last Tuesday.
Volunteers in the five-month road test were selected after competitions beginning last October. They are asked to record daily experiences and statistics on Weibo, a Chinese microblog similar to Twitter.
By the end of 2010, more than 600 volunteers were taking part in Mini E road tests in other parts of the world.
The pure electric car is the first product by parent company BMW's Project i Department built especially to design sustainable solutions for future urban transportation.
BMW began with delivery of 612 Mini E electric cars in November 2008 to ordinary users for real road tests.
Equipped with an electric powertrain offering a peak power of 150 kW and top torque of 220 Nm, the model can run 140 to 190 kilometers on a single charge.
