FOSTERING NEW GROWTH
Meanwhile, in Chengdu, a new high-tech industrial development zone (CDHT) is seeking to attract technology and Fortune 500 companies.
Tang Jiqiang, head of CDHT, says it favors high-tech, modern services, and environment friendly industries, and bars high energy consuming and polluting firms.
CDHT is nurturing 1,500 start-up enterprises, which are offered the first six months without rent or electricity bills, as well as favorable loans, says Tang.
This year CDHT is aiming at a 25-percent GDP growth to 300 billion yuan (45.6 billion U.S. dollars), accounting for 30 percent of Chengdu's GDP target for 2011.
