Burgeoning growth at Shanghai VW

Sino-German joint venture Shanghai Volkswagen sold 100,108 cars in the first month of 2011, a year-on-year increase of 49 percent.
Sales of its Volkswagen brand cars rose 56 percent to 82,100 units in January, helped by an all-time record of 11,380 Volkswagen Tiguan SUVs, as well as 12,000 Passat and 22,470 Lavida sedans. Sales of the Polo cars also surpassed 11,400.
The company's Skoda brand sales rose 23 percent to 18,000 units in January, more than half of them were the compact model Octavia. Its flagship model Superb sold 4,600 units last month, setting a new monthly record.
