Chinese vendors, especially China Mobile, played a key and leading role in terms of establishing TD-LTE technology as the international standard for the next generation of mobile communication, said a senior official from China Mobile on Feb. 14 at the annual Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
"Over 60 operators took part in the forum and more than 15 announced the adoption of the standard," said Li Zhengmao, vice president of China Mobile, after a summit forum held by the China Mobile on TD-LTE technology.
Numbers of large vendors across the world attending the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona jointly initiated a worldwide TD-LTE development proposal, which aims to support the adoption of the TD-LTE technology as the international standard of the next generation.
Presently, the International Telecommunications Union is drawing up the communication standards for the next generation of 4G mobile. The proposal to make LTE the standard for next generation mobile applications was the most preferred option, and TD-LTE is one of the main types of LTE technology.
The main differences between 3G and 4G standards lie in that the 4G standard has a faster network rate, wider spectrum and a broader range of applications.
With conferences and forums attended by experts from high-tech vendors worldwide, including Steve Ballmer from Microsoft, Eric Schmidt from Google and Peter Chou from HTC, the four-day event that began on Feb. 14 is considered one of the industry's most important gatherings.
As the leading mobile services provider in China, China Mobile boasts the world's largest mobile network and the world's largest mobile customer base.
