Luxury auto sales continue to surge

Sales of luxury vehicles on the Chinese mainland continued to grow in January, including 15,330 vehicles under the Mercedes-Benz, AMG, smart and Maybach brands, an 80 percent increase over the same period the previous year.
Mercedes flagship model, the ninth-generation S-Class, sold 2,640 cars, up 104 percent from last year. C-Class cars sold well in the medium luxury segment with a 2,500 monthly figure, year-on-year growth of 51 percent.
BMW scored a monthly sales record last month by delivering 20,308 BMW and Mini vehicles, up 70.4 percent from the year before.
Sales of the popular all-new BMW 5 Series Li reached 6,300 units, rising almost 100 percent year on year. Mini delivered 1,208 cars to customers, a 120 percent rise over the same period of the previous year.
Audi announced that its January sales totaled 21,995 units, a 32.15 percent increase from last January, far exceeding its 22.6 percent growth in global sales.
