In 2010, China experienced 64 cases of trade friction, involving about 7 billion U.S. dollars, Vice Minister of Commerce Zhong Shan said on Jan. 26.
Zhong said that China is still the hardest hit area by trade protection. In 2010, China's trade frictions not only came from developed economies like the United States and the European Union, but also from developing countries, such as Brazil, Argentina and India, both in Chinese traditional industries and in the high-tech industries.
China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Chairman Wan Jifei said that in recent years, CCPIT has taken advantages of its resourceful channels to provide an effective response for domestic enterprises to deal with trade friction. CCPIT expressed the Chinese business community's position against investment protectionism on topics like the exchange rate, trade imbalances and other issues as well as in cases like the United States' investigation of China's clean energy Industry.
Putting efforts into promote trade balance and promote imports is not an expediency in response to trade frictions and pressure from RMB appreciation, but a necessary requirement for the sustained and healthy development of China's economy, Wan Jifei said.
