The country's movie industry did great in 2010, while regrets and difficulties still lay ahead its development, according to the National Business Daily report Tuesday, citing industry insiders.
Last year was a milestone for China's movie industry with the box office growing 50 percent year on year to break the line of 1 trillion yuan ($151.90 billion), crowning the country the world's third largest producer, with 526 films. Despite such momentum, obstacles still remain.
Wang Zhonglei, president of China's leading film producer Huayi Brothers, who snatched a 10 percent of the box office by its eight films, said the market has become overcrowded with each film battling for the best box office.
Previous data from the State Administration of Radio Film Television (SARFT) showed that China produced more than 500 movies in the past year, while according to Wang, the current movie market cannot nurture good returns for so many films, which left only 150 making it big in China Hollywood.
Wang added that out of the more-than 500 movies, over 300 were left out of the 6,000 movie screens throughout the nation. He said also that many of the outcasts were not even paid attention to.
Wang Changtian, president of Enlight Media, said that the stone in the road for the country's movie industry is not the shortage of directors or audiences, but the lack of a good marketing system.
Enlight Media's marketing model disposes of sales representatives in over 50 cities with the best box offices. The company plans 70 cities by the end of 2011.
Market space overseas is the oasis for China's movie industry. Bona Film Group Limited is listed in the US, and via such platform it seeks cooperation with kings in Hollywood for promotion of Chinese movies.
