A notice posted recently by a subsidiary of Youngor Group to employees of the company has raised heated discussions among employees and netizens who have seen it, according to the Beijing Morning Post Tuesday.
It reads that employees who ask for leave five days before (from January 26th to 30th) or after (from February 7th to 11th) the Spring Festival holiday (from February 2nd to 8th) will be deducted three times their ordinary day payment rate.
An official from the human resources department of the subsidiary admitted that the company published the information.
Though aware it (notice) is in violation of Chinese labor laws, a flow-in of orders from the US and Europe forced the company to roll on without a stop, said an official from the company.
Rising labor costs and insufficient workforce especially in the clothing industry have pushed many companies to lock out parts of their businesses. The rate of operation in coastal areas is only 70 percent, according to reports.
Youngor Group was founded in 1979. Over almost three decades, it established businesses in sectors including property development and equity investment, in addition to its core business of branded garment manufacturing and marketing.
The firm is now a major multinational corporation, employing over 50,000 people. Youngor Group Company Limited a member company of the group was listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange in 1998.
