Clothes CPI down, but PPI still Up

Write: Amery [2011-05-20]

The Consumer Price Index for clothes went down 1.0% from Jan. to Aug. The clothes CPI went down 1.2% in August. The pace of decline was 0.4 point higher than that of previous month. While the Producer Price Index for clothes grew 1.8% in first eight months. For August alone, the clothes PPI grew 1.7%. The pace of growth was 0.3 point lower than that of one month earlier.

The inconsistency of clothes CPI down and PPI up remained unchanged in August. Otherwise, the clothes CPI decline rate enlarged but PPI growth rate slowed down. This means that under the impace of food prices soaring, people spend less in clothes, This results in lower price. While since the prices rising in raw material, energy and power is tending to be steady, the factory cost is also slowing its pace of growth.
