US/China: Disputes over apparel and textile subsidies

Write: Gil [2011-05-20]

US-Sino trade tensions over unfair apparel and textile support measures continues to stay, as seen the latest WTO meeting of the two countries.

During a closed door session, the US levelled the charge China - such as Hangzhou City, was providing subsidies to its textiles and apparel factories through the provincial and local authorities.

The US also criticized Wuxi City's plan to envisage foreign exchange from fibre per ton which "shall be increased by 20% compared with 2008," and that the ratio of domestic fabric in apparel exports "shall reach 90% and above."
