HK: Trinity seeks to sew up more brands

Listing candidate Trinity, a retailer and distributor of international menswear brands, aims to expand by acquiring brands, managing director Sunny Wong Yat-ming said.

Trinity has the global operating rights for Kent & Curwen and franchises for other brands in Greater China including Altea and D'urban. It also has a joint venture with Salvatore Ferragamo, covering South Korea and Southeast Asia.

Wong told Sing Tao Daily, sister publication of The Standard, that the success of Trinity - which has operated in the mainland for more than 20 years - depends on a high profit margin, and opening outlets at premium locations.

With high-end fashion brands growing at an annual compound rate of 25 percent, he is positive about the development prospects of upmarket apparel for men, especially as established quality brands comparable to Trinity's are still rare.

The company's mainland outlets have risen to 270 stores from 150 when Li & Fung Group (0494) acquired it in 2006, Wong said.

The retailer is seeking acquisition opportunities for suitable upmarket male clothing brands.

Trinity, which is expected to get HK$780 million from floating 451.9 million shares, opens its retail book on Wednesday, market sources said.

The firm will invest 40 percent of the proceeds from the listing into business expansion and acquisitions, the sources said.
