Since many newly opened shopping malls boast themselves with international brands, several elder shopping centers have also claimed their move into the high-end segmentation. In November last year, Beijing Department Store, which used to aim at civilian population, upgraded itself. Now, international brands accounted for 42% of all the brands in the store, with mostly domestic brands being replaced. Through one-year of upgrading, Beijing APM also "dismissed" parts of low-grade brand, focusing on introducing international middle and high level brands. Data shows that in men's wear section of 17 department stores including Xidan Department Store, Cuiwei Tower and Shuangan Department Store, there are 173 foreign brands, which account for 73% of the total number and is two times more than the number of domestic brands.
