COSCO appoints Rita Fan as independent non-executive director

China COSCO, Asia's largest shipping company by market value, has appointed Rita Fan as independent non-executive director with effect from May 17, it said in a stock exchange filing on Tuesday night.
Rita Fan, 65, was the president of the Provisional Legislative Council of Hong Kong in 1997, and has been re-elected as the president of the first, second and third Legislative Council of Hong Kong. She has served as the president of the legislature of Hong Kong for 11 years.
In addition, Fan was elected as a deputy to both the ninth and tenth sessions of the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China between 1998 and 2007.
