Yanling Cliff Carving

The folklore had it that long ago, Nuwa (a goddess in Chinese mythology), while collecting five-color stone blocks to patch the holes in the sky, chose Yanling for refining the red stone block.

In fact, Yanling was a quarry in the Ming and Qing Dynasties and now is regarded as a historic & cultural site under the protection of Guangdong Province. After having been quarried for hundreds of years, the surface of Yanling has become dark pink and formed a fantastic landscape. Here, dark-pink cliffs and steles, reflected by the setting sun at dusk and complemented by green trees, become fire-like. Such a splendid view has enchanted numerous poets, most of whose poems have been engraved on the cliffs of Yanling.
