Consumers' Price Index Rose by 1.8 Percent in May

In May, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) was up by 1.8% over the same period of the previous year, of which, urban area and rural area was up by 1.4% and 2.4% respectively. As compared with the last month, the CPI was down by 0.2%. The accumulative level of CPI from January to May was up by 2.4% as compared with the same period last year.

In view of different categories, the price of food, non-food, consumable, and services raised by 2.8%, 1.2%, 1.2% and 3.6% respectively.

-- In view of the price of food, grain was up by 1.6%, oil or fat was down by 5.7%, meat, poultry and their products, fresh eggs, aquatic products and vegetables was up by 6.9%, 11.9%, 3.0% and 10.1% respectively.

-- The price of tobacco, liquor and daily articles rose by 0.4%. Of which, the tobacco and liquor respectively increased 0.4% and 0.6%.

--The price of clothing dropped by 2.2%. Of which, the price of clothes dropped by 2.3%.

--The price of household equipment and maintenance service dropped by 0.3%. Of which, consumer durables dropped by 1.4%, household service and maintenance service rose by 3.8%.

--The price of medical care and personal articles was down by 0.5%. Wherein that western medicine dropped by 2.4%, the traditional Chinese medicinal materials and medicine was down by 4.2%, while that of medical care service rose by 4.0%.

--The price of transportation and communications dropped by 3.4%. Wherein that price of vehicles dropped by 3.4%, while that of vehicle fuel and spares rose by 8.8%, that of using and maintaining of vehicle was up by 2.2%, that of urban transportation fee rose by 2.5%, and that of communication service dropped by 16.6%.

--The price of recreational, educational and cultural articles rose by 2.8%. Wherein that price of learning and baby-care rose by 6.6%, that of recreation rose by 3.7%, that of tourism and outgoing dropped by 1.5%, and that of consumer durables for recreation was down by 6.3%.

--The price of articles related to dwelling was up by 5.8%. Wherein that water, electricity and fuel, construction and decoration materials, and housing rent was respectively up by 8.9%, 2.9%, and 2.2%.
