In the first several months of 2008, there appeared a lot of imported aquatic products in the market of Wenzhou, Zhengjiang Province. After investigation, Wenzhou Customs House(affiliated to Hangzhou Customs District) found out that these aquatic products might be smuggled ones. On 20th February, the anti-smuggling police swooped on a wharf in Xiaguan Town of Cangnan County and detained a suspicious freighter which sailed from Keelung Port of Taiwan Island. Later, the anti-smuggling police uncovered 150 tons of frozen saury, squid and tuna bones which are worth RMB 5 million from the cardboard cartons and gunnysacks put in the cabin or under the deck.
Recently, Wenzhou Intermediate People s court adjudicated upon the case. The two smugglers were sentenced to jail.
Customs officers said they would remain vigilant at all times and enhance their role as the watchdog to curb the smuggling activities on the sea.
