Chinese Food Festival Will Open at UNESCO HQ

After half a year s preparation, the Chinese Food Festival designed to promote Chinese food culture will be held on October 18-22 at the headquarters of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Paris.

Yang Liu, President of the World Association of Chinese Cuisine (WACC), said on October 12 in an interview with the Xinhua News Agency that, this Chinese Food Festival was jointly organized by WACC and China Cuisine Association and would present a series of photos and fascinating on-the-spot operations within five days to introduce Chinese food culture to UNESCO officials.

Yang Liu said that today, food had gone beyond its definition and become a form of science and art everywhere in the world. Through bringing Chinese food into UNESCO, we hoped not only that guests and friends could enjoy tasty Chinese food, but also that they could learn more about Chinese food culture.

Du Yue, Deputy Secretary-General of the National Commission of the People s Republic of China for UNESCO, said in an interview that choosing the UNESCO headquarters as the location of the Chinese Food Festival was aimed to introduce authentic Chinese food to UNESCO officials, and to showcase aesthetic and cultural essence of Chinese food as part of diversified Chinese culture. The event not only conformed to UNESCO s spirit of promoting cultural diversity, but complemented the food section of its ongoing Creative Cities Network program.
