Shenzhen 'to lead in IT industry'

Shenzhen would provide the best service and environment for the development of the IT industry with the best performance in the sector throughout China, the city s Party chief Wang Rong said yesterday.

Wang was speaking at the opening of the 2011 China (Shenzhen) IT Leadership Summit. About 80 professionals, including CEOs of leading IT companies and top government officials and scholars, attended the one-day summit for the domestic IT industry at Dameisha in Yantian District.

Shenzhen is a pioneer in the IT industry and an important IT production, research and development base, expert base and logistics center. The city government would continue to support the development of the industry, Wang said.

The development of high-end software technology would be promoted in telecommunications, Internet of Things, integration of three networks, new types of flat panel display, highly functional integrated circuit and cloud computing technology, said Wang Xuewei, chief of the city s commission of science, industry trading and information.

The city also plans to add three to five State key laboratories and research centers this year.

Turnover in the information and telecom technology industry was 896.33 billion yuan (US$135 billion) last year, accounting for 14 percent of the national total. Industry export volume was US$99.82 billion last year, accounting for almost 50 percent of the city s total export volume, Wang said.

Meanwhile, the city was also a national software export base and leading in the national outsourcing industry. Revenue from the software industry was 150 billion yuan last year, the second highest in China. Software industry export volume was US$11.3 billion last year.
