According to He Yuepei, the director of Dongguan Science and Technology Bureau, the total output of high technology industries in Dongguan is forecast to reach 231.6 billion yuan for 2009.
Last year, there were 90 national high-tech enterprises and 89 provincial private hi-tech enterprises added to Dongguan's economy. Dongguan earned 20 provincial science-technology awards, 2.5 times of that attained in 2008. Predictions have been made that there will be 18,000 patent applications in Dongguan in 2009, ranking second in Guangdong Province; second only to Shenzhen.
He also stated that the local government will accelerate its move to formulate policies and to provide guidance on the development of the emerging strategic industries such as new energy, biological pharmacy and manufacturing equipment. Electric vehicles and LED illuminating industries will also be key supported industries as they will be new opportunities for Dongguan' s economic development.
The measures released last year to offer more support to science and technological enterprises will continue to be carried out in 2010, the deputy mayor of Dongguan Leng Xiaoming stressed.
