Dongguan found no foot-and-mouth disease outbreak in pigs and the supply of pork in Dongguan is not likely to be affected by the outbreak in Guangzhou, said Dongguan Bureau of Agriculture on March 2.
A suspected foot-and-mouth outbreak, involving 1,474 pigs, was reported in Huangjinwei in the Baiyun District of Guangzhou, on Feb. 22. The outbreak led to the culling of all 8,382 pigs in Huangjinwei, including the 1,474 pigs diagnosed as having the disease.
According to Mr. Lu Zhigeng, an official of the Bureau, pigs selling in Donggguan are from Huizhou and Zengcheng, not from Baiyun District of Guangzhou, the site where the outbreak was reported.
He said Dongguan has a comprehensive monitoring system to ensure the pork safety by implementing strict assessment in livestock procurement, quarantine and slaughter.
