26,896 people have already applied to sit for the upcoming civil servant recruitment examination in Dongguan. Competition for positions in several government departments is expected to be stiff, especially the Dongguan's Bureau of Land and Resources, where 1,067 applicants are vying for one available post.

Scheduled for March 27, applicants will compete for 225 positions in city authorities and government institutions. Candidates will be tested in mathematics, history and law, and compose essays on resolving current social issues.

Civil servant jobs have become very popular in recent years; last year saw more than 13,000 examinees. Many applicants are lured to become a civil servant, even though they do not understand their job duties.

However, not all positions are so popular. There are about 200 positions left unapplied for. For example, 2 positions with the Dongguan Forestry Public Security are with only 6 applicants.

Work experience was most sought out during this year's recruitment. 112 posts require applicants to have at least two years' experience. 54 posts were opened to both this year's graduates and social workers. The rest 58 posts were opened to graduates only.

The online registration for civil service exam was introduced in Dongguan for the first time this year.
