Four tourists from Dongguan die in East China road crash

Four tourists, including three from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and one Dongguan local resident, died in a traffic accident in east China's Jiangxi Province on February 24.

A Toyota van carrying seven people, including five from Hong Kong, one from Dongguan in the southern Guangdong Province and a local guide, veered off a mountain road near Mount Sanqingshan National Park, into a gully at least 70 meters below on Feburary 24 afternoon.

The four dead included three Hong Kong residents and the tourist from Dongguan. It said the other three people in the van survived with injuries, including the driver, and a Hong Kong resident surnamed Chan.

The injured are still being treated at a hospital in Shangrao City Friday. Their conditions were serious, but not life-threatening, said a traffic police officer who escorted them to hospital on February 24.

The van was registered in Guangdong. The tourists were returning from a trip to Mount Sanqingshan National Park, a world heritage site, when the accident happened.

After days of investigation, the local police in Jiangxi Province found out the accident was casued by the fatigue driving. The 50-year-old driver who is from Hong Kong had been fatigued by long drives and insufficient sleep the day before, the police said on February 26.
