The ground-breaking ceremony for the Huairou Campus of the CAS Institute of Electronics (IECAS) is held on 22 November at the Beijing Yanqi Industrial Development Zone about 55 km from downtown Beijing.
The ground-breaking ceremony for the Huairou Campus of the CAS Institute of Electronics (IECAS) was held on 22 November at the foot of the Great Wall in northwest of Beijing. CAS Vice President YIN Hejun and Vice Major of Beijing ZHAO Fengtong were present to witness the event.
A CAS research arm in the field of electronics and information science, IECAS has been conducting many national key research projects, including the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and the space traveling-wave tube. However, its further growth in the existing campus Zhongguancun in the northwestern suburbs of Beijing is limited by the land scarcity there and its skyrocketing prices . Located at the Beijing Yanqi Industrial Development Zone about 55 kilometers from downtown Beijing, the new campus is expected to provide growth potentials for the development of IECAS.
CAS has always given importance to its cooperation with Beijing government, says Prof. Yin. With continued efforts of the two sides, a CAS S&T park in Huairou has been initiated. At the moment, several CAS institutes, including Institute of Electronics, Institute of Mechanics, and Institute of Coal Chemistry, have signed the agreements with the local government on locating some major R&D projects at the Beijing Yanqi Industrial Development Zone. Furthermore, the construction of a new campus of the Graduate University of CAS will be started there soon.
