CAS academician honored with prestigious French award


Prof. LI Daqian (Li Tatsien), a CAS Member and mathematician of Fudan University, was present the Knight of National Order of the Legion of Honor (Chevalier de la L gion d'Honneur) at the Consulate-General of France in Shanghai on 14 November. The honor is to recognize Prof. Li's outstanding contributions to Sino-French cooperation in applied mathematics.
Established by by Napol on Bonaparte, First Consul of the First Republic in 1802, the Order is one of the most prestigious French awards and the country's highest civilian honor.
With the support of the leaders of the two countries, a Chinese-French Institute for Applied Mathematics was jointly set up by Fudan University and Ecole Polytechnique in 1998. Under the leadership of Prof. Li, the institute has made encouraging progress over the past 10 years in strengthening cooperation and exchanges between mathematicians of the two countries.
