Vice President of Szczecin University Visits GDUFS

April 17- On April 13th, Mr. Andrzej Witkowski, Vice President of Szczecin University, visited GDUFS. President Zhong Weihe received the guest accompanied by Liu Qisheng, Vice Dean of the Faculty of European Languages and Cultures (FELC).

Professor Zhong Weihe expressed his condolences over the Polish plane crash tragedy, and stated his belief that that the people of Poland will recover from the loss. Then, he introduced Mr. Andrzej Witkowski to FELC, hoping to establish cooperative German studiesresearch projectswith Polish universities.

GDUFS hopes to, one day, offer Polish courses, and to do this properly, needs help from Polish universities and research institutes. To strengthen cultural communication between China and Poland, Prof. Zhong also proposed the establishment of a Sino-Poland college based on cooperation between the two universities.

Mr. Andrzej Witkowski thanked Prof Zhong for the reception as well as for his concern for the Polish people. He said that like any Polish citizen, he was in deep grief, however he was comforted by people smiles during his stay in Guangzhou, and he felt at home.

Mr. Andrzej Witkowski greatly appreciated Prof Zhong's proposal. He hopes to set up an Asian language research centre, to collaborate with GDUFS on Chinese teaching. Mr. Andrzej Witkowski also talked with Prof Zhong about overseas Confucius Institutes.

Introduction to SzczecinUniversity

Szczecin University is a famous public university in Poland. It grew out of a former institute which was established in 1946 and combined with two other famous local universities in 1985. As the most famous university in West Pomerania, SzczecinUniversity enjoys its reputation in academic areas such as engineering and economics. There are now more than 36,000 students at this university, offering 300 majors.

In November 15th, 2009, GDUFS signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with SzczecinUniversity.
