Professor Edmund M. Clarke, recipient of the 2007 ACM Turing Award, visited USTC between October 22 and 23.

On the afternoon of October 22, President Hou Jianguo met with Professor Clarke, and CAS Academician Chen Guoliang and Professor Chen Huaping, executive director of the School of Computer Science and Technology, were also present at the meeting. After the meeting, Professor Chen Guoliang introduced Professor Clarke to an audience of over 300 teachers and students from the School of Computer Science and Technology, School for the Gifted Young, and School of Information Science and Technology, to whom Professor Clarke gave a lecture entitled "Model Checking: My 28-Year Quest to Overcome the State Explosion Problem".

On the morning of October 23, Professor Clarke met with the faculty and students of the School of Information Science and Technology and School for the Gifted Young for a discussion. They exchanged views on the academic cooperation in the field of computer science and technology and reached a preliminary intent on training programs, teacher visits and research collaborations.
