A vegetable planter transports cabbages into a sale center in Zouping County, east China's Shandong Province, April 23, 2011. Vegetable planters in east China's Anhui, Shandong and Zhejiang provinces suffered heavy economic losses recently from an oversupply of vegetables. Farmers had been throwing away unsalable vegetables, the prices of which plunged after vegetables in north China ripened early, impacting the market already saturated with vegetables from southern China. Official figure released by Agricultural Information Center of Shandong province shows that, the wholesale price of vegetable sees drop in consecutive seven weeks, the range of price drop hit 29.8 percent. The local departments of commerce are taking measures to help farmers tackle difficulties in selling their products and maintain a stable market. (Xinhua/Dong Naide)
