On March 6, over a thousand of 2009 graduate students for professional degrees enrolled in SCUT. The opening ceremony was held at Eastern Gymnasium on the afternoon of that day.
LI Lin, vice-president of SCUT, introduced to the fresh students the history and the teaching & research status of SCUT, and used three words responsibility, honesty and innovation to encourage the students to be honest and innovative, and to work hard to strengthen their scientific and academic research abilities.
WAN Jiangping, the master tutor from the School of Business Administration, JIANG Guiyin, director of Economic Information Center, Baiyun District branch of Guangzhou City Administration of Industry and now a 2007 engineering master's degree candidate in the School of Business Administration, and LI Zhuoting, from Comba Telecom Systems Holdings Ltd (China) and now a 2009 master's degree candidate of Engineering Program in the School of Computer Science & Engineering, gave a speech on behalf of the teacher, the graduate-to-be and fresh students respectively.
After that, Prof. LI Zhong, executive deputy dean of SCUT Graduate School, gave a guidance lecture to help the new-comers begin their college life.
In 2009, SCUT has admitted 1,308 students for professional degrees, including 1,017 in the master of engineering program, 200 in the master of public administration program, 41 in the master of landscape architecture program, 48 in the master of business administration program, and 50 in the master of jurisprudence program.
