Project Wrap-up Conference on Employment Promotion and Rights Protection for Migrant Women Workers i

The project wrap-up conference on Employment Promotion and Rights Protection for Migrant Women Workers in Beijing was held in Beijing on February 25-26 2010. This Project was supported by the European Union and was implemented by China Association for NGO Cooperation (CANGO and China International Centre for Economic and Technical Exchanges(CICETE) from March, 2006 to February, 2010. A total of 110 people attended the conference, among them representatives from different government agencies, international agencies, non-governmental organizations, national cooperation agencies and media agencies as well as migrant women workers,.

At the opening session, Ms. Lea Vuori, First Secretary of European Union Beijing Delegation; Mr. Zhao Zhongyi,Executive Board member of CANGO, Deputy Director General of CICETE, and Mr. Wang Yanhua, Director of Personnel Division, Ministry of Commerce delivered speeches respectively as representatives of project donor, implementing agency and government agency. Ms. Lea Vuori affirmed gratifying achievements of the project and expressed her appreciation to all staff who participated in the project management and implementation. Mr. Zhao Zhongyi introduced the implementation and output of the project in detail. Mr. Wang Yanhua congratulated on the success of the project and emphasized the project's actual output and its positive impact.

In his concluding remarks, Mr. Huang Haoming,Executive Directorof CANGO introduced the project achievements and difficulties during four years of implementation, andstressed the importance of dealing with the migrant workers problemsin China.

Government officials from Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, Ministry of Agriculture; experts and advisors from different research institutes commented on the implementation and results of the project. At the end of the conference, the participants discussed how to continue project work in order to make it sustainable.Some participants visited the Migrant Women Club, which has benefited from the NGO training provided by this project.
