YRCC Delegation Participated in the Opening Ceremony of the 5th World Water Forum

On March 16th, 2009, people all over the world focused their attention on Istanbul, the biggest city in Turkey with thousands years of civilization. Because on this day, at Turkey time 10am, the Fifth World Water Forum is held at the Sutluce Congress and Culture Center at the Golden Horn Bay in Istanbul, almost 20 thousand political figures and experts from more than 100 countries participated in the forum with the theme Bridging Divides for Water , to discuss the issues about management of water resources, security of water use and so on.

The president of Turkey, Mr. Abdullah Gul, participated in the opening ceremony and gave a speech, Crown Princes Willem Alexander andNaruhito Kotaishi of the Netherlands and Japan, attended the meeting, World Water Council Chairman Vladimir Collinson (who had participated in the Third International Yellow River Forum), the Secretary-General of the Fifth World Water Forum, Mr. Loic Fauchon, Istanbul Mayor, Mr. Kadir Topbas, director of Mexican National Water Commission, Deputy Secretary-General of United Nations, Mr. Sha Zukang spoke at the meeting.

The 6-member delegation led by the YRCC Vice Director Mr. Xu Cheng, hurried to the opening ceremony immediately after getting off the plane. YRCC, EU and UNCESCO will host a side event on Integrated River Basin Management on this forum.(Interpreted by Dong Wu)
