The Producers' Prices for Manufactured Goods Increased by 5.8% in January

The producers prices for manufactured goods increased by 5.8% in January as compared with the same month of last year, purchasing prices for raw materials, fuels, and power was up by 10.7%, which was lower than the average growth rate of last year, or 1.3 percentage points less as compared with last December.

In January, the producers prices for means of production was up by 7.8% over the same month of last year, dropped by 1.6 percentage points as compared with last December; its impact on the total level of producers prices for manufactured goods was 5.7 percentage points. Of which, the prices for mining and quarrying industry increased by 19.6%, dropped by 9.7 percentage points than that in the previous month; that of raw materials industry was up by 11.5%, manufacturing industry was up by 3.8%. The producers prices for means of consumer goods was up by 0.3% than the same month of last year, down by 0.2 percentage points over last December, or 0.1 percentage points influence towards the general level of producers prices for manufactured goods. Wherein the prices for food went up by 2.3%, that for clothing, up by 0.7%, that of articles for daily use, up by 2.1%, and that of durable consumer goods dropped by 3.4%.

In terms of different categories:

1. Prices for crude oil and oil products dropped distinctly. The producers prices for crude oil was up by 19.1% over that in the same month of last year, or 16.5 percentage points lower than that in last December, its impact on the general level of producers prices for manufactured goods was up by 0.6 percentage points. The prices for oil products, such as gasoline, coal oil and diesel oil rose by 19.4%, 11.9% and 17.6% respectively, with the growth rates slower as compared with that in the last December.


2. The prices growth for downstream crude oil related products slowed downed obviously. In January, of the producers prices for synthetic materials and chemical fiber products, that of the price for polystyrene was up by 21.9% over the same month last year, or down by 11 percentage points over that in last December; latex rose by 24.3%, dropped by 9.5 percentage points; terylene silk was up by 14.1%, down by 3.2 percentage points.


3. The prices for coal products continued to increase. In January, the producers prices for mining and cleaning industry rose by 25.8% over that in the same month last year, or 1 percentage point higher over that in the last December. Wherein that the producers prices for crude coal rose by 26%, or 1.8 percentage points higher.


4. The growth rate of prices for steel products reduced slightly. The prices for smelting and pressing of ferrous metalswent up by 10.8% as compared with that in the month last year; or 3.4 percentage points lower than that in the last December. Of which, the prices for ordinary large rolled-steel, medium rolled-steels, small rolled-steels, wire rod, and heavy steel plate and medium steel plate went up by 5.9%, 4.7%, 5.8%, 1% and 19.7% respectively, with their growth rate declining by 3.3, 6.1, 6.8, 5 and 0.6 percentage points respectively as compared with last December.


5. The prices rise for nonferrous metals products declined. The producers prices for smelting and pressing nonferrous metals increased by 15.1%, it dropped by 2 percentage points over that in the last December. Wherein, the producers prices for copper, aluminum, lead, zinc and nickel rose by 4.5%--26.7%, the growth rate decreased as compared with the last December.


Furthermore, the growth of the purchasing prices for 9 kinds of raw materials, fuels and power products showed the trend of declining. Wherein that the prices for fuel and power, ferrous and non-ferrous metals materials, and chemical material rose up by 12.6%, 14.3%, 17.4% and 13.5% respectively.
