On August 7, the kick-off meeting for academicians and experts Xinjiang trip and the symposium on strategic development of Xinjiang s modern fisheries were held in Urumqi by the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences (CAFS). At the meeting, the CAFS and the Bureau of Aquatic Products of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region signed an agreement on aiding Xinjiang s fisheries, symbolizing that the Ministry of Agriculture formally began to aid Xinjiang with fishery science and technology.
At the kick-off meeting, Wang Shijiang, Assistant to Chairman of the Xinjiang Autonomous Region and Director-General of the Department of Water Conservancy, expressed his welcome and appreciation to visiting academicians and experts, on behalf of the People s Government of the autonomous region. He said that the Xinjiang tour on a mission of surveying its fisheries and providing aid demonstrated great importance the Ministry of Agriculture attached to Xinjiang s development, which was no doubt highly conducive to its fisheries. He hoped that this trip could help to promote the establishment of development planning for local fisheries with a high starting point and high standards, thus ensuring its efficient, healthy and sustainable growth.
