On Oct. 29, Han Changfu, Minister of Agriculture, met with a delegation headed by Josette Sheeran, Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). The two sides exchanged views on further cooperation.
Han Changfu commended the positive contribution made by WFP to eliminating hunger and malnutrition, expressed his appreciation to WFP for its assistance for promotion of China s agricultural and rural development, poverty alleviation and development for years, and introduced the status of agricultural and rural development in the country and its efforts to promote world food security. In order to strengthen the bilateral cooperation in the new context, Han suggested that the two sides continue to explore new ways and fields of cooperation and enhance the collaboration on personnel exchange. In addition, Han said that the Chinese government would increase its donation to WFP within the limits of its capacity in a bid to help more developing countries combat hunger and address food issues through WFP.
Sheeran spoke highly of the active and productive cooperation between WFP and China over these years as well as the outstanding contribution made by China to ensuring world food security. She also expressed that WFP would further work together with China to make positive contribution to world food security and eradication of hunger and poverty.
