On October 18, 2010, Wei Chao an, Vice Minister of Agriculture, met with the visiting delegation led by Motia Chowdhury, Minister of Agriculture of Bangladesh.
Vice Minister Wei spoke highly of the achievements in agricultural cooperation between the two countries, noting that both China and Bangladesh were agricultural nations and strengthening bilateral ties in this field was of great importance for both sides.
Minister Chowdhury expressed her appreciation to the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) for its thoughtful arrangements for the delegation. The Bangladeshi side also voiced their hope of learning from China s successful experience in agricultural development and conducting extensive technical cooperation with and receiving human resources trainings from the Chinese side in the fields where China was considered to possess advanced and practical techniques and specialized talent, such as breeding of hybrid rice, cultivation of super rice and genetically modified rice, improvement of crop varieties, agricultural machinery, formula fertilization based on soil testing, water-saving irrigation, rainwater harvesting, artificial precipitation, farmland irrigation and drainage, exchange of germplasm resources and development of gene banks, planting of vegetables, fruits and flowers, and sugar production.
Vice Minister Wei gave a positive response to the cooperation proposals of the Bangladeshi side and put forth some suggestions for bilateral cooperation in the days to come.
The Ambassador of Bangladesh to China and officials from the Department of International Cooperation and the Department of Crop Production of MOA also attended the meeting.
