South China's Guangdong Province was the largest LPG consumer in China in 2010, consuming 5.58-mil mt, accounting for 23.37% of the total, C1's data showed.
The province is highly developed with dense population in China, which explained the top rank. Guangzhou, the capital city of Guangdong, is the pilot to spread use of automotive LPG.
Shandong Province with 2.63-mil mt of consumption took the second place. LPG consumption of industrial end-users in the province hit 1.3-mil mt. In addition to traditional industry, demand from chemical industry was rising with the rapid development of LPG deep processing projects.
Jiangsu Province in East China ranked the third with 2.35-mil mt, 60.53% of which was consumed by residents.
Zhejiang was the fourth largest consumer with demand mainly from household consumers. Besides, part of consumption was from industrial end-users in the coasts and Zhenhai Refining & Chemical's ethylene plant.
Liaoning Province was the fifth, nearly a half of consumption of which was residential-consuming LPG. The province saw demand from industrial users increasing as some LPG deep processing projects came on stream in the second half of the year, like Panjin Heyun Industrial Group.
Fujian, Hebei, Shanghai, Henan and Guangxi are also on the list of top ten LPG consumers, consumption of which is all below 1-mil mt.
