State-run Nigerian National Petroleum Corp Thursday said it has over 40-days of petroleum products in stock despite the closure of refineries on the back of pipeline attacks.
"The NNPC has well over 40 days sufficiency of petroleum products that will last all through the Christmas celebration and beyond," NNPC chief executive Austin Oniwon said in a statement.
He said the NNPC and security agencies were checking damage to oil pipelines feeding the refineries.
Oniwon said on Wednesday that attacks on the Bonny and Escravos crude pipelines led it to shut down the Warri, Kaduna and the two Port Harcourt refineries.
A militant group in the oil region, the Niger Delta Liberation Front, claimed responsibility for the December 6 attack on the Escravos pipeline.
The Escravos pipeline transports crude to Warri and Kaduna.
US oil major Chevron said on Monday it had suspended production from the Dibi-Abiteye pipeline in Delta state after a sabotage attack.
Some of Chevron's crude is supplied to the refineries.
The closure of the refineries could see Africa's top energy producer increasing its fuel imports, which before now accounted for 70% of the country's petroleum products needs.
