More than ten petrol stations in Baoji City in Northwest China's Shaanxi Province started to sell methanol gasoline on Dec 15, which meant Shaanxi began to popularize the use of such fuel, learned from market sources.
Within one week, Xi'an and Hanzhong cities in Shaanxi will follow suit.

Yanchang Zhongli New Energy in Shaanxi has kicked off operation of four blending bases for methanol gasoline, with a combined production capacity of 1-mil mt/yr, said a source with the company. These bases are located in Xi'an, Hanzhong, Yulin and Baoji cities. The company will bring the blending base in Yan'an, Ankang and Shangluo cities on line next year, and its total production capacity will hit 1.5-mil mt/yr then, the source said.

"Now we have established over 140 distribution channels to promote the use of methanol gasoline," he added.

The price of methanol gasoline will fluctuate together with that of petroleum gasoline. Shaanxi Pricing Bureau pegged the retail ceiling price of M15 93-ron gasoline at Yuan 0.13/L lower than that of 93-Ron petroleum gasoline.

A local source with Sinopec said they had not got any notice about selling methanol gasoline in their gas stations.

Some market sources expected methanol gasoline and petroleum gasoline to coexist in Shaanxi.

As reported earlier that the plan to start the use of methanol gasoline throughout Shaanxi in October was postponed. Both Sinopec and PetroChina said they did not intend to supply methanol gasoline.
