Ineos on Wednesday initiated restart procedures at its No. 2 olefins cracker in Chocolate Bayou, Texas, according to a filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
Ineos, which produces ethylene and propylene, has two steam crackers at Chocolate Bayou with a combined capacity estimated at 3.25 billion lbs/year. Both were knocked offline by a lightning strike in early November, but the company was able to restart its No. 1 unit in mid-November.
Emissions associated with the restart of the second unit are expected to last through December 19, according to the report submitted to TCEQ by Ineos.
A company spokesman declined comment on the restart, citing company policy.
Earlier this week, CP Chem began restart procedures at its 1.75-billion lb/year cracker Cedar Bayou, Texas, facility. The company also was in the process of restarting its 650-million lb/yr Unit 22 steam cracker at Sweeny, Texas, which had been idle at least one year.
December ethylene was heard talked this morning at 44-45.50 cents/lb with no reported transactions after trading at 44.875 cents/lb MtB Wms on Tuesday.
