India being short of Uranium deposits, and other energy commodities, has a new friend in Zambia as the country is offering uranium, oil and gas for the nation.

This offer came from Allan D Kalebuku, Zambian ambassador to India, who informed that the African nation is having substantial uranium, oil and gas deposits.

India can extract these resources, though an extensive dialogue process should precede such a move in case of Uranium, the element having sensitive issues tagged to it, said Petroleum Bazaar.

The country is also on the lookout for investments in fertilizer, cement, telecom and pharma.

The offering is important in the context that bilateral trade between India and Zambia has dropped from $207 million in 2007-08 to $190 million in 2009-10.

India needs uranium resources for its bullish civil nuclear industry and currently relies on imports.
