An Iranian Company linked to the country's Energy Ministry said it plans to build a massive wind farm in Pakistan's southern Sindh province.
Iranian company SANIR, which is affiliated with the Energy Ministry, said it signed a $100 million deal in Pakistan to build a 1,000-megawatt wind farm, the semiofficial Fars News Agency reports.
The report adds that Iran is the only country in the region that has the technological capability of building wind turbines.
The contract was signed with members of the Pakistani Chamber of Commerce, the report adds. The project aims to help Pakistan alleviate a looming energy crisis.
Both sides in June agreed to long-term natural gas contracts from the South Pars gas complex in the Persian Gulf.
Iran said it would ship as much as 750 million cubic feet of gas per year to Pakistan as early as 2014 when a pipeline from South Pars goes on stream.
Iran has pressed for the pipeline, which is dubbed the Peace Pipeline, since the 1990s. Western adversaries are pushing for a rival project from Turkmenistan.
