China: Major domestic refineries' run rate drops to 83.47%

Major Chinese refineries' operating rates averaged 83.47% on Dec 9, down 4.24 percentage points from two weeks ago, 0.71 percentage points higher compared with the same period of last year, a survey found.

The drop came as Gaoqiao Petrochemical slashed its run rate by 44% due to maintenance of an 8-mil-mt/yr crude distillate unit and Jiujiang Petrochemical cut its operation rate by 22% because of maintenance of a 1-mil-mt/yr fluid catalytic cracker.

The cuts were partly offset by the rise in Jinzhou Petrochemical, which raised it run rate by 8% after wrapping up maintenance of a hydrocracker at the end of November.

The other refineries kept their operation rates largely stable.

The above figures were obtained through computation on the basis of primary refining capacities of refineries. If calculated on the basis of their complex refining ratio, the average run rate would be about 89.43%, down 4.54 percentage points from last survey.

The 23 major Chinese refineries as surveyed have a combined annual refining capacity of 281-mil mt.
